The Grand Reunion

Well, yesterday was the big day - when wee Seb came back home! He knew where he was right away and was desperate to get in the front door. When I opened the door I was treated to a few excited tail wags (a rarity from Seb) before he sprinted through to the kitchen and stood at the bark door. He then spent the next half hour outside barking at loud volumes and kicking up grass, just so everyone was quite clear that he was back in town. He was a little unsettled at first because he wasn't sure whether he was leaving with Anne and John or staying with us. He did bark when they left just in case they had accidentally forgotten him, but he soon settled down and was straight back into his usual routine.

After lunch I went upstairs and he followed me to the stairs and dropped his tail in a dejected manner, thinking I might be going out. He then saw me getting my boots on and began sighing loudly with despair. I then asked if he wanted to come with me - he cocked his head to the side with a quizzical look and then literally flung himself at me in excitement. He wouldn't let Andrew put his lead on.. it had to be me. We all went for a short walk and I took the route I used to do pre-transplant, which is a 10 minute walk, although make that 15 minutes to include Seb sniffing every tree we passed. I actually found it a lot harder than I expected and needed to stop a fair few times. I was a bit disappointed but Andrew pointed out that I still have the fitness of someone with 20% lung function, so it wasn't going to be that easy right away. I think I'm too hard on myself. Hopefully the more I do it, the easier it's going to get. Seb was pleased enough with his wee walk so that's the most important thing.

I was a bit bored in the afternoon because I have all this new found energy but am quite limited with what I can do at the moment. I offered to help Andrew paint the hut, but he thought lifting a paintbrush up and down would probably constitute putting pressure on the wound. Sensible man. I did hang the washing out though, and it's probably been well over a year since I did that!
I then caught up with a few things and made a list of all the people I have to phone to get all my equipment removed, so that will be todays task. The sooner I get rid of the oxygen etc, the better.

Since Andrew was out painting the hut I decided I would try and make dinner (not sure when I last did this). I was getting on really well until I lifted the pot to drain the rice, and I felt a searing pain through my sternum (breastbone). I sometimes forget that they did actually cut that bone and I think it is now held together with some wires (takes 4-6months to fully heal). I was told not to lift anything heavy but I didn't think the pot was that heavy. Needless to day I was very sore for the rest of the night and needed to take my stronger painkillers to try and settle it down. Very silly girl. It seems to be ok this morning though, so hopefully no harm done.

The other thing I did was order a medi-alert bracelet so that in a medical emergency the doctors would know that I have had a transplant. Newcastle advised me to do this because there are certain drugs, including some antibiotics, that can be fatal when mixed with my anti-rejection drugs. I am going to make a card for my wallet too, but thought I should have something to wear when I out walking Seb on my own. I managed to get one that is just a canvas strap with small metal disc, so it doesn't look too bad in the picture, although I will reserve judgement until it arrives.

I probably won't update my blog daily daily from now on, so if I don't post then don't worry, I'm probably just too busy enjoying my new lungs :-)

Hi Jacqueline

Just been looking at your blog and it seems everything is going OK. It also sounds as if Seb has already settled in nicely. It must have been strange for him at first after spending so much time with us over the past couple of months but I'm sure that he's settled back very quickly. Eerily quiet without him here now and I'm getting very tempted to get another dog!!
You'll have to make sure you don't strain anything but it must be difficult trying to find a balance between rest and exercise.
I'm working from hime today and Anne will send a message when she's back from work.

Lots of love
John

When I said 'hime' I obviously meant 'home'!

Isn't that how the Queen speaks??

Ditto what Emily said - you are far too hard on yourself! You need time to get in tip top condition and then there will be no stopping you so take it easy! Lifting pots of rice, what are you like lol! :)

Hi, Wee Seb here.
Granny T said it would be a nice idea to say thankyou to Granny A and Granda J.(You know what she’s like with her bright ideas)!for looking after me so well during my holiday.I had a wonderful time stretching out on the sofa in the conservatory with the sun beating through the glass. You know that’s out of bounds at home so it made a lovely change.I must admit though that I was really glad to see the old homestead and after greeting my mummy and daddy I went absolutely mad running up and down the garden making sure the neighbours knew that I was back.
Anyhow you were right about Granny T. She arrived this morning with my bed all nicely disinfected before she put down the new duvet you bought me.Thank goodness because the thickness of it helped keep the horrible smell away.Granny T thought it was a nice smell but then we’ve all got our own taste. There was no stopping her and she proceeded to clean out my wee extra bed in the sitting room with bacterial wipes(whatever they are) before popping it into the washing machine. She said something about it being a good drying day.Mind you I do like a bit of luxury and there’s nothing like snuggling into a nice clean bed.
I did get a bit panicky this afternoon when I say mummy and Granny T putting their jackets on.I thought Oh no are they going to leave me? so I ran to the front door and put on my best act(who said Lassie was dead?not when I’m around ,that’s for sure) It worked because they said I could come. What a treat I was in for.Granny T drove to the big park and mummy took me for an exciting walk. The smells were fantastic and I was allowed to sniff about for ages.I also met a rather nice lady dog but she was a lot taller than me and scared me a bit but I acted the tough guy and trotted off. I know my mummy has to exercise and work her muscles but hey I’ve just got wee legs and they were about to collapse.I couldn’t wait to get home then and stretch out for a rest.I wasn’t even fit for dinner.
I think this might be a regular occurrence at least that’s what I heard them say.I’m not complaining though because I like the attention from everyone.I was a wee bit surprised and hurt to tell the truth when I read that you were thinking of maybe getting another dog.Dont do anything rash as I am the jealous type and any new addition could interfere with my holiday plans.Granny T says she’s not getting another dog because I’m her special wee boy and anyway she wants to start going on holidays –maybe she’ll take me with her, then again maybe not.
Anyhow I think I’m ready for my dinner now so thanks again for having me and especially taking me to the pet shop to spend my pocket money.Granny T says that I have to save all my money now for my next holiday.I cant wait.
Love
Wee Seb x

So glad you hear that both you & Seb have settled in back at home. It's only now you'll realise all the things you can do now that you weren't able to do before and it will only get better from here!

Looking forward to less & less posts and you become more & more active..though don't give up altogether!

Love & hugs

Jennifer

I definately thinks theres a book lurking there "the Adventures of Seb " I mean if the duchess of york could write about Budgie!!!!
I mean Seb could practically write it himself > Glad you are feeling like doing things for yourself but I have to agree with Anne (thats why we "train" the menfolks )
Take care and enjoy each new day

Hi Wee Seb
Granny A and Papa J here. Yoy are very welcome to come and stay anytime you like. We loved having you and Papa J is quite lost without you (but we don't want you to feel bad or anything!!) Don't you worry, we won't be getting another doggie for the time being so you will always have somewhere to stay when you are abandoned (???)(I wouldn't hold my breath about them taking you on holiday with them by the way!)
It's great that you are having some lovely walks with mummy now. You might have to get on the Wii Fit to get yourself fit enough to keep up now! Poor Wee Seb!!
Anyway, behave and you might get some extra pocket money! Remember your manners and don't tell them everything about your stay here or you won't get back!! See you soon.
Lots of love
Granny A and Papa J

It took my legs quite a while to get strong, but once they pass a certain stage it's like they get stronger exponentially. Now it's quite 'frustrating' to exercise and exercise and not have tired legs! Then it feels like I did nothing!

Fantastic post! Isn't it the best feeling in the world when you see a little expectant furry face and looking up at you, along with a very waggy tail, and you can take them for a lovely walk and watch them having fun?! :o) Daisy is helping me to get lots more exercise at the moment in this nicer weather and it's doing me a lot of good. I love Seb's posts, I think Daisy wants to start messaging him now...I'll never get the computer to myself...xxxxxx

Dear Seb, this is Daisy (Emmie's dog). I heard from my Mummy that you type on a blog so I decided to have a look and join in. Today I went for a walk in the park with my Mum and Dad, it was really good because they went the long way round so I got to sniff loads of nice smells, although some of the best ones I get told off for sniffing, like horse poo, which is a shame because horse poo smells lovely, don't you agree?

I'm glad you had a nice holiday. I go on holiday to a lady who has lots of dogs in her house. My Mum calls her a dog-sitter but she's never sat on me, although I often sit on here so may be that make's me a human-sitter? Anyway, this lady keeps llamas and when I was last there I decided to roll in the llama poo. It was great, I rolled and rolled and wiggled on my back in it. But then the lady put me straight in the bath, which was such a shame as I smelt lovely.

Anyway, I must go as I need to run around the house with me toy dog stuffed in my mouth and drop it at my Mum or my Dad's feet until one of them takes some notice.

Lots of Love, xxxxxxx
