For some reason (probably just not enough distraction) I am getting a bit panicky in the late evenings and feeling quite anxious about everything and nothing. I'm sure this will settle down in the coming weeks though, and I have no doubt that some of the pain medication is contributing to some of the strange feelings. Despite this however, I had a much better sleep last night with the new pain medication. Although I was still awake quite a few times throughout the night, I was not waking up rigid with pain and asking for morphine. I managed to get myself back off to sleep and lasted all night without extra pain relief. Let's hope this will now continue and I can catch up on some much needed sleep!
There was a ward round this morning and the doctor was pleased with my progress so far, especially the bronchosopy results. He has however decided to change one of my anti-rejection meds (cyclosporin) to a different kind (tacrolimus), as the ones I was on can make me hairy. Eek! He hadn't realised how dark haired I was until the nurse pointed it out, which apparently meant I would almost certainly be troubled by this side effect. Not fancying the idea of shaving for the rest of my life we are swapping the meds now before it becomes an issue. I am also still having blurred vision which might have been related to my anti-rejection drugs, so I'm hoping this will clear up as its rather irritating (can't read a book or anything like that, and this is really hard to type). It could also still be my low magnesium but they are treating that, so not much more to be done on that front. I'm getting the usual side effects from high steroids - bloated moon face, generally swelling up and skin is looking bad - but this should clear up as they reduce the dose. Apparenty most people end up on a small maintenance dose, which is similar to the dose I was on for CF related chest problems anyway,so thats not a big problem.
I did well without the overnight feed last night, and did in fact eat more today that I have done all week. I am really hoping this is a sign that I can ditch the feeds for good, although i suspect they will make me keep the Peg tube in until they are sure my weight is steady. I have to now carefully monitor my blood sugars, as the steroids and anti-rejection drugs are playing with my diabetes control. With a bit of regular monitoring and adjusting of insulin this should be easy enough to manage.
I have continued with the exercise routine and had a couple of goes on the bike today- once for 7 mins and then for 8mins. Mum and Andrew kept telling me to stop, but I was listening to Dolly Parton's 9-5 on my ipod so I couldn't hear them anyway. (This sound track will forever be associated with my transplant, as that was the ring tone on my mobile when I got the call). Feeling that I was overdoing it, Mum did hit me with her newspaper in a bid for attention but I ignored her and carried on cycling. She might have just been trying to stop me singing along though. Andrew has evidence on his mobile, and it includes shoulder shrugging and general swaying to the beat whilst cycling. That clip will never be seen on this blog. I did feel quite breathless after the 8 minutes but it was a different kind of breathless than before - it wasn't a low oxygen levels, going to collapse feeling, but more a 'I've just exercised feeling' and I recovered quickly and was still able to talk (much to everyone's delight). I think that's the main thing people have noticed so far - that I speak for much longer and much faster, with little pause between. I remember only too well having to pace what I was saying because even talking made me out of breath, but now there is no shutting me up!
Getting fit! (this was taken before o2 was stopped)
Dad stayed with me this afternoon whilst Andrew and mum went to get some food essentials (including ingredients for mum to make me truffles!) They also had to buy me some more tops, because I can't get my arms above my head enough to get the ones I have on. I'm not complaining though. It was good that dad was here this afternoon though, as we had more teaching from the nurse and he could ask some questions as well. It was just more info about post transplant do's and don't buts I won't bore you with the details. I also signed a form to say that I am self medicating now, which is great - it means I can just get one with everything without waiting on a nurse to check things. I also have to take my temperature 4 times daily at the moment (and 2 times daily for the rest of my life) in order to pick up signs on infection or rejection early. There is a lot of new information to take in and alterations to my treatment regime but I'm sure I will get the hang of it soon enough.
Well, this is a really long blog so I won't go on any more. I hope its helpful for everyone to keep up to date like this - its helpful for me to write all this down as my head is spinning with new information. I do apologise if the detail is a little much, but then again its my blog so i can do as I please... :-)
Me and Andrew after a walk to main door
p.s Just a wee note to say Hello to Joan and Andy - great to hear you are keeping up with the blog. I'm sure we will be able to come and visit you all soon!

Jac, you are absolutely amazing and look stunning in your pics!
Glad to hear that the pain seems to be more under control and that you're developing more of an appetite!
Well done on the 8 mins on the bike, think I'd struggle with that, Dolly or no Dolly!
Lots of love, Jennifer xx
No blog could be too long ! loving all the updates... Your photo's are great , glad you had a better appetite today and here's hoping you will be saying tara to the peg soon!! Willing the pain away for you, hope you have a good night. Big hugs (gentle ones!) Rose and Kevin xxxxx
Hi Jac,
I'm astounded that you're such a whizz on the bike already and keeping up the exercise so well. We'd both be struggling with that.
I'm not surprised that all the different meds will be having effects on your sleep and emotions. It'll need time to settle down but I'm sure that now you're "in charge" you'll start feeling on top of things in no time.
Terrific news that your appetite is coming back now too. Your mum's truffles are fantastic so that will help you along nicely.
Ali is also absolutely delighted (seriously!!) that you have 9 to 5 as a theme song. (She'll have you dancing like a cowgirl in no time given half the chance - be warned!)
Write as much as you like - it's the best read ever.
Wishing you a great Tuesday!
Lots of love

Hi
Wee Seb here again. We had a nice weekend. Granny A had a couple of days off so it made a long weekend – in more ways than one! Mind you the upside was I was spared the ritual of waving my paw at the conservatory door every morning for 10 minutes and trying to look bereft as she went off to work! We went for a walk into town on Saturday afternoon so that I could spend my pocket money! YES I did say pocket money and you might like to think about increasing it when I get home! Might help to reduce the trauma (in me not you!). We were going to the nice pet shop but Granny A has been barred ever since she asked the nice man behind the counter if he had PIG’S EARS! Oh well, I got a nice new ball from Morrisons so I can’t complain. At least it wasn’t pink or fluffy or glittery so that’s a bonus.
It’s time for my music lesson now! Granny A is teaching me ‘How much is that doggy in the window?’ and I have to bark ‘woof woof’ in the right places! What a pain! There’s a lot of treats involved though, especially when I get it wrong! Apparently it’s called reverse psychology (don’t ask!!) I might never get it right (sound!!)
By the way, sorry to hear about Granny T dancing around your room to 9 to 5. That must have been awful and I mean does she really think she’s Dolly Parton!! Between you and me, there are a couple of things missing! Know what I mean !! What is it with these old birds?
I was up in Milngavie today by the way to see Great-Granny J. Papa J and Uncle Ross wanted to spend the day in your garden. It was nice to get home for a wee visit and see the old home town – looks the same – as I step down from the train – sorry, getting carried away now! Thought I was Tom Jones for a minute!! Been here too long!!!!
Can’t believe how well you look Mummy. Must go because I’m very tired after all the activity today and I need an early night.
A big lick for Daddy.
Lots of Love
Wee Seb

Hey, you have to promise me that I get to see that video clip - I promise not to laugh...well I may smile and have a wee quiet chuckle - who am I kidding, I would LMAO! :)
So pleased that everything still going well. It's natural that you feel overwhelmed sometimes but I'm sure that over the next few weeks your emotions will begin to settle a wee bit and you'll be able to relax more.
Looking great in your photos too! Bet you're relieved that they sorted hairy medication out - he he! Also can't believe that you've managed to get my mum into the world of blogging - there is no stopping her...never thought I'd see the day!
Sending a millions hugs, claire xxx
Me again...your blog is fantastic and we all love reading it and catching up with how you're doing - I refresh it all day and eagerly await your updates! :) Could never be too long xxx
well done you, it is lovely to see the photos of you and Andrew.
It's incredible how you cope with the new challenges each day.
The blog is a great way to keep us all uptodate with what's going on, however the Bathgate tom-tom drums work equally as good. At least I have a reason Mum can't complain about for being on the web each night.
Lots of love Rena & Auntie Margaret
Hey Jacqueline, 8 mins on the bike.....i bet you couldn't do that a few weeks ago. Glad everything is progressig well. Keep up the good work. Love and hugs Bobby xx
Hey Jac,
My mission tomorrow is to leave the first comment after you post your blog. I know I have stiff competition in Anne, John, Ross and Seb but I am up for the challenge.....I bet you Andrew will text them as you are composing....I'm on to you Andrew! Anyway, as you can probably guess I'm in need of some positive stimulation....I'm so excited now.....can't wait for tomorrow. Bobby x
PS - No i am not drunk!
hey lovely,
So great to read another blog written by you, trust me it can't be too long!
Writing down stuff really helps; do you have a notepad? That helped me quite a bit when I was getting anxious and panicky (trying to extract the feelings from my head and getting them down on paper) but then I couldn't speak so maybe that's why it was such a help....
My vision was dodgey for some time, they decided in the end it was the anaesthetic so I'm sure yours will come back too :)
Nice work on the bike! Bit saddened that we didn't get to see any filmic evidence of the scenario :P
Keep on going Jac, onwards and upwards, you are storming ahead, just allow your mind to catch up with your speedy body!
higs galore
xx

Och you're both as gorgeous as ever, though Andrew's isn't quite as shiny as it was. Still beautiful though.... I'm so proud of you both :)
xxx
Love the Seb entry above, that had me smiling.
Fi
lol that meant to say Andrew's HAIR isn't as shiny! it reads a little odd without the 'hair'. Sorry Andrew..
Hi wee Seb. It was lovely to see you blogging again. I was afraid that you would lose all your IT skills. You know how Gran A is with a computer but I can see that she has been practising.
You will be so happy when you see how well your mummy is doing but you will need to be patient a little longer because she can't afford to pick up any nasty infections and you know the mess you drag into the house at times.
I know Gran A and Granda J are doing their best to keep you occupied by taking you out for long walks. It must be hard for you because you know what Granda J is like, 5 miles just seems like a mile to him.He does get carried away, maybe something to do with his age but I know you will do your usual and lie down when you've had enough and wait to get a wee carry.
By the way I heard you were on Uncle R's window sill in his new flat obviously checking out the neighbourhood, but you know that window sills are off limits. It's well seen that that you're taking liberties whilst your away.
You will be excited to know that your mummy will be able to take you for walks when she's a wee bit better but I have to warn you that she's not allowed to use poop scoops or the likes(sorry to be personal here). You know what that means -more training-so as you learn to wait until your daddy comes home from work and takes you out.Might be a pig's ear in it for you!
What did you think of the photo?I bet you were jealous because you weren't in the middle of the photo.
You thought I was bad doing my Dolly Parton song and dance. You've seen nothing yet.Your mummy and me are thinking of a double act. We practise when the nurses aren't looking in case they think we're barking mad.
Anyway try and manage the 'olds' a wee bit longer.Just ignore their eccentricities and let it go over your head.
We are all missing you here especially you mummy and daddy but they left it to me to send the message. I wonder why?
Lots of Love
Granny T xx
The non stop talking bit definitely has something to do with the medication as well, I just could not shut myself up in the HDU. I kept wanting to stop talking but it wouldn't happen.
It's great to hear from you and you're looking great. I'm on tacrolimus and I've a bit of a hairy chin. Don't worry it was a bit hairy before I started the tac....... That's just old age, I think.
Are you well enough to paint me another picture yet?
Now I can't get Dolly P out of my head :-)
Audrey xx
Hey Jac,
Been keeping up with your blog but not been able to write a comment.
You are doing so well! A real inspiration to live life to the full.
Take care, see you soon.

hi!
My laptop decided to stop working for a while there and my IT guy is currently in Newcastle!! I've been catching glimpses of your news when I can at mum and dads (in between Joe sleeping with keyboard draped across him and his game on the screen- old habits die hard!)
Anyway, fantastic to read all your news and see how FAB you look! Keep it up and we'll hopefully see you at home soon!
HUGE HUGS!
Sarah
P.S. I had some amusing mental images of you with a nice beard coming in..... :P
Hi,
Its been great reading your blog..it gives me an insight of what lies ahead for me. So please never think your blog is to long.
I hope you don't mind me looking in?
You are doing really well. Keep up the good work.
Best wishes
Lynn
I'm also on Tacrolimus, not bad! And only take 7.5mg of prednisone, much less that I used to take for the CF!
Jacqueline thrilled to hear about the transplant, the excellent progress you are making and your mother,s tap dancing.Maybe she will get a bowler hat for her 60th. Hope the pain lessens soon and that you continue to make good progress. I made some truffles once for your mum. They weren't very good but I've had lots of practice since then.I'll send you some when you get home.Best wishes to you and all the family. Trish at Bathgate JCP. Christine also sends her love.Say hello to your mum and dad for us. will.
